Midterm Reflection Continued

Hi folks!  Today, you will continue with your midterm reflection while we conference.  Be sure to bring other work to do if you finish early.

You should also review your syllabus to see which book you’d like to read for your final digital literary circle (more on that tomorrow).

A reminder: all test corrections are due tomorrow.

Midterm Reflection

Welcome to second semester!

Today, you will be getting your midterm back with an overview of how your grade was calculated.  You will also be completing a midterm reflection which will include MC test corrections, an essay reflection, and an overall reflection of your test score.

All test corrections will be due Wednesday at the beginning of the hour.  All week I will be conferencing with you briefly one-on-one.

Victorian Literature

Hi folks!  Today, we will have a student presentation over Victorian Literature.

You will also be selecting which Victorian novel you’d like to read (consult your syllabus for ideas) and signing up to be in a literature circle.

Finally, you’ll also be receiving a MWDS which will be due the day of the timed writing over this novel: March 2nd.

The following handout explains the expectations for each day we have a literature circle as well as the dates for circles.

For homework this weekend, in addition to getting your Victorian novel, you should read Jonathan Swift’s “A Modest Proposal.”

Have a great weekend!

Satire Webquest

Today, we are meeting in the lab so you can see satire in action and then break it down, using this chart.  You will need yesterday’s handout to complete this activity.

If you do not finish, it is homework.  It’s due at the beginning of class tomorrow.

You are also going to be creating your own example of satire.  This handout details all of the requirements.

Examples of Satire:

Charlie Hebdo Political Cartoon
Jimmy Fallon & Justin Timberlake (Hashtag Video)
“Royals” by Lorde
Hozier’s “Take Me to Church”
Baby Got Class
Pure Michigan: Golf
Jimmy Fallon & Adam Levine: Wheel of Impression
The Onion-Health Insurance 2014 (1)
Key and Peele —  Les Mis
Voters Cartoon
Calvin and Hobbes Cartoon
Stephen Colbert: Best quotes
Cartoon about the news
Nation’s Landmarks Article
ISIS Cartoon

If you like, find your own!
